ThundersportGB Formula 600
Race 1 - 10th
Race 2 - 8th
Race 3 - 11th
Championship Position - 6th
The second meeting of the ThundersportGB Formula 600 championship was once again held in freezing conditions, although this time drier and at Donington Park.
There was drama from the outset as the freezing conditions caused a failure in the water pump of the bike, even though it had been drained to prevent such damage! This was fixed with just 5 minutes of qualifying to go, but I managed to get 2 flying laps in and although not perfect, I had set a time and had a slot on the grid, although it was near the back.
Sunday afternoon's race was the first time I had been on the new bike on full dry tyres at racing pace - I learnt a lot, and came back 10th F600.
Monday was even colder, as we lacked the sunshine that we had enjoyed on Sunday, but the racing more that made up for it. First race on Monday turned into a great battle between myself and 2 others, and the second race was an even better fight with a big pack. I was doing great, and working my way up the field, when I outbraked myself with only 2 laps to go. I ended up in an escape road where I had to turn around to get out, so lost a lot of time. However, I really put the hammer down and fought back over only a lap and a half to catch the pack back up, and take back one place as we crossed the line.
All in all the weekend was a huge amount of fun, and I left with a massive grin. There is still a lot of work to do, and progress to be made, but my consistency has granted me 6th place in the Championship, a brilliant start to the year.
Television coverage of Monday's races will be broadcast on Thursday 11th April, at 9pm, on MotorsTV - be sure to tune in!
Next up is Snetterton, on the 27th/28th April - cannot wait to get back out on track.
